NIRF 2024 India Rankings: Release Date Confirmed for August 12

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) will announce the NIRF India Ranking 2024 on August 12 at 3 pm. After the announcement, you can view the complete list, categorized by type, on the official website — nirfindia.org.

Last year, the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras) was named the top higher education institution in India for the fifth year in a row. IIT Madras also held the top spot in engineering for the eighth consecutive year and was ranked as the second-best research institution in the country. It missed the top research spot by just 2.2 marks, which went to the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru.

In the overall category, the rankings from third to tenth in 2023 were IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, AIIMS Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee, IIT Guwahati, and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

In the medical category, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, once again topped the list of medical colleges. AIIMS Delhi was followed by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, Christian Medical College, and the National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) in Bangalore, who retained their second, third, and fourth positions, respectively.

The NIRF 2023 rankings were announced by the Minister of State for Education, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh. The rankings assessed 5,543 higher education institutions across 13 categories: overall, universities, medical, engineering, management, law, architecture, colleges, research institutions, pharmacy, dental, agriculture and allied sectors, and innovation. The agriculture category was introduced last year, and no new categories have been announced for this year.
